PTSL Bike Ride: Madison County Trails (MCT)

PTSL Bike Riding Event

Date:   Monday, October 7th, 2019
Time:  9:30 am – 12:30 pm
Place:  Madison County Trails

Tom K. has offered to lead us on his favorite 23-mile ride on this wonderful network of asphalt trails.  The MCT website (http://www.mcttrails.org/map.aspx) has a “7 Loops” drop down list where you can view the route.  We will meet at 9:30am and have lunch at Culver’s after the ride.

Parking info:  From I-70 east, exit at IL Route 157 (exit #11- Collinsville); north on Rt. 157 for 0.5 miles; left on United Drive (the road just before Culver’s); right into the Metro East Park and Recreation parking lot.

Monthly Membership Meeting (Program: Streaming LGBT Entertainment, Part One)

The Monthly Membership meeting is held on the second Saturday of Every Month except July and December.

Program: First of a two-part presentation on “Streaming LGBT Entertainment”.  Part One will present the options of hardware and streaming providers available to hook-up to streaming services.

In the Parish Hall.  Enter the building through the doors on the left side of the building (upon facing the front of the main sanctuary on Bompart Ave.)  Look for “Church Office” sign in front of the entrance.  The hall is on the first floor.  Turn right after entering the side doors. 

Parking is in the church lot across the street (access from Bompart Ave.).  There are also a few handicapped parking spaces along the sidewalk leading to the side doors.

A Social Hour with Refreshments follows the presentation.

Suggested Donation: $3.00 for members; $5.00 for non-members.

Directions:

The church is just west of where E. Lockwood Ave. branches off of Big Bend Blvd.  For those coming on I-44 West, you would exit on the Shrewsbury Ave. exit, turn left on Shrewsbury, turn left on Big Bend Blvd., and the turn right on Bompart Ave.  For those coming east on I-44, you would exit Elm Ave., turn left on Elm Ave., turn right on Big Bend Blvd and then turn left on Bompart Ave.

Golden Happy Hour at Just John

PTSL meet up at Just John’s for Golden Happy Hour from 5 to 8 PM. An RSVP is not necessary for this event. Just show up any time during happy hour and enjoy the evening with fellow Prime Timers. Complementary food during happy hour.

This event does not have a coordinator. Prime Timers can be found in a group in the rear of the bar or out on the patio in nice weather. If you don’t see us, ask the bartender.

PTSL Bike Ride: Meramec Trail in Fenton

PTSL Bike Riding Event

Date:   Saturday, October 19th, 2019
Time:  9:30 am – 12:30 pm
Place:  Meramec Trail in Fenton

We will repeat this Meramec Trail 12-mile ride for those who were unable to join us last time for this easy, enjoyable ride.  We can have a lunch in Fenton afterwards if there is interest.

Parking info:  On Larkin Williams Road, at the southern end of Fenton City Park, turn onto Henderson Road heading toward the athletic fields.  Make an immediate right and park near the restrooms.

Tour: Bollinger Mill and State Historical Site Bufordville Covered Bridge
Oct 19 @ 10:00 am – 4:00 pm

Tour Bollinger Mill and Burfordville Covered Bridge from 1859.  Arrive 10 a.m. to 10:30 and tour at 10:30 October 19th Admission is Free.  Finished  at about 12 noon.  Then proceed to Cape Girardeau for lunch (At your own expense), tour the Red House, the first Trading Post in Cape Girardeau ( Free), The Glen House an a historical old home from 1883 (admission $5.00) and Cape Rock a scenic overlook on the Mississippi River.
  All this should be done by 3 to 4 in the afternoon in time for everyone to be back in St Louis bye 5 or 6. Drive time about 2 to 2 hours 15 minutes from St Louis Mid town.

RSVP By October 15th and I will send the address for your GPS and or directions.
Note: The Mill is 5 stories tall.  There a lot of steps.

Afternoon Buffet at Golden Corral (South County) – RSVP Accepts Only

We are reviving our fomerly-regular dining experience at the Golden Corral for this one-time only.

The Golden Corral is an American family style restaurant chain serving breakfast, lunch and dinner, and featuring a large all-you-can-eat buffet and grill offering numerous hot and cold dishes, a carving station and their Brass Bell Bakery. Tell the cashier that you want the “Senior Buffett” to receive the $8 price (60 and older).  Price does not include gratuity so we will collect a dollar from everyone for the servers.

We’ll share the latest chapter activities and news about the upcoming Prime Timers Worldwide convention in San Antonio.  Just come and enjoy the food and conversation with your fellow Prime Timers.

Plan ahead for Prime Timers trip to the picturesque city of San Antonio, Texas in 2019. A pre-convention sale to participants at the Chicago Worldwide Convention produced some exciting enthusiasm. The registration fee is $200 per person for Prime Timers – for all Chapter or Independent members and $240 for non-Prime Timer guests, if paid by check.  Maybe it is time to join the Independent chapter for $15!

If using PayPal to make your payment, there is an additional $6 transaction fee.

Monthly Potluck at Sam and Willie E.’s Home (RSVP Accepts Only)

Sam and Willie E. will host the November Potluck at their Saint Charles home on Saturday, November 2, 2019 at 5:00 PM.

Sam and Willie will provide a traditional Thanksgiving dinner with Turkey, Mashed Potatoes, Dressing, Corn and rolls.  Coffee and soft drinks will also be provided. You will bring a side dish, appetizer, salad or dessert.  Dinner will be served promptly at 5:30 PM.

Alcohol is BYOB, smoking is outside and ample parking is available on the street.

After dinner, Sam and Willie will have a movie (TBA) available for those interested (while others may wish to continue with their conversations).

Lafayette Church: Turkey Dinner & Bazaar

The Lafayette Park United Methodist Church has been very supportive of the LGBT community, and also our chapter of Prime Timers in providing a meeting space for our Monthly Membership Meetings for many years.

The church is inviting us to join them for their 2019 Turkey Dinner & Bazaar.

If it’s anything like the Spaghetti Dinner a few months ago, it promises to be a very nice event with great food.

Proceeds will go to the church and its various charities.

Please feel free to join them for a great dinner and good company.

Note: we will be using the upstairs gym, as the downstairs Fellowship Hall is being used for the church’s annual Turkey Dinner & Bazaar (which we are invited to, by the way… see separate calendar entry).
