    1. Group Tour: Missouri Civil War Museum and Lunch – RSVP Requested
      10:00 am – 1:00 pm

A group tour of the Missouri Civil War Museum at 222 Worth Ave., Jefferson Barracks, followed by an optional PTSL-only lunch at Cafe’ Telegraph, on Saturday, January 26, 2019 at 10:00 AM.

Click here to RSVP with Doug Schneider, who is arranging the group tour and lunch.

The Missouri Civil War Museum is a story within a story within a story.  The first story is the Civil War in Missouri, a battleground state that suffered greatly.  The second story is an army officer’s club at Jefferson Barracks, left to rot for decades.  The third story is about a dedicated band of volunteers, who turned the building into a museum.

Admission (normally $7) will be reduced to $5 for all of us from PTSL.  Please arrive by 10:00 AM for these two talks:

LEWIS CASS, President James Buchannan’s Secretary of State, will come back from the grave to give a brief talk about why Missouri was coveted by both the North and the South.

MARK TROUT will tell us about the building, the restoration, and the museum… and the controversial St. Louis Confederate Monument (which was in Forest Park, but is now owned by the museum).

After the talks, you will be free to wander through the museum at your own pace.

Here is a YouTube video giving a history of Jefferson barracks and showing how a dilapidated building was turned into the fourth largest Civil War Museum in the country (5.5 minute video): click here.
